Relocated to Mountain View
Feb. 5th, 2015 11:05 amFor the next few months, I'm spending most of my time in Mountain View at the main Mozilla office in order to be closer to most of the rest of the Daala team. For now the plan is to be here through middle of June.
This isn't a permanent move, at least I'm not currently planning it to be. I intend to return to Somerville in the middle of June. But for now, I'm local to the other codec and FOSS hackers out in Silly Valley!

Date: 2015-02-10 05:59 pm (UTC)I know my subject line has no relevance to this post, but would you consider doing another video demo discussing the merits of DSD (aka Pulse Density Modulation) versus PCM for audio recording/playback? Also, are multiples of the normal DSD frequency overkill? (e.g. DSD128, DSD256, etc.)
I only posted this here because it is your most recent journal update and I hoped you would see it more easily.

Date: 2015-02-17 04:41 pm (UTC)What about all of those "niche" formats that try to shoehorn themselves into the Redbook spec? For instance, HDCD, Blu-spec CD, XRCD (XRCD24), K2 HD, etc.
Is this stuff just snake oil or are there legitimate mastering improvements? In the case of Blu-spec CD, can the manufacturing/pressing stage make an audible improvement or does RS error correction make this redundant?
Lastly, can you talk about the effect of jitter on audio reproduction and whether it is something to make a hullabaloo about?
