xiphmontStep 2: As shipped, the 6061 aluminum rod is a very rough-surfaced extrusion. The final pieces to be made from the rod are intended to be aesthetic, so the next task is to turn .01"-.02" or so from each 9" section with a lathe to make a nice smooth, sniny, easy to polish surface. The exact diameter of each final piece does not need to be as precise as some later dimensions, so no need to turn each piece to the same precise diameter.
