In the interests of this being a livejournal as opposed to a deadjournal (It has been nearly a year since posting. Camilla has been doing the sort of job in her postings that made me vaguely ashamed of the shoddiness of mine...)

Two mornings ago, Camilla woke me to the sights [and sounds] of a fledgling blue jay learning to fly in the garden outside her bedroom window. She managed to snap a few decent pictures of the cute little guy.

Biking home from work at about 7am I heard a similar 'thin high rusty hinge' note as I pulled into my driveway... the sound of a bird that hadn't quite gotten making noise entirely under conscious control yet. Another fledgling! It was a mockingbird fresh out of the nest that a pair of the locals had build in the tall Ailanthus in the neighbor's yard.

I scrambled for binoculars and it soon became clear the peep was happy Right Where It Was, so I also went back in for my brand new 'cheapest Microcenter carries brand' camera. They can't compare with the pics that Camilla's camera takes, but.... soo cute!

I had enough patience to get some action shots, but the camera was struggling to deliver (not surprising; it was at the very edge of its telephoto and I was shooting almost directly into sunlight). I did see the little guy get fed lots of huge tasty grubs!
