The strips of metal are to be shaped to follow the slot cuts in each plate. Using a hand brake, bend each strip into the rough shape of the slot along the bend lines marked earlier. The bend points must be exact but the shape itself need only be approximate. This rough bending step improves the results of a final bend on a jig.
